How to Fool a Brain

Before we discover the easy way to quit smoking, let’s take a quick look at the field of magic, for the two share a common core.

Magic entertains us because it baffles our minds. Things that shouldn’t be possible become possible.

You may not believe that these are static images but indeed they are. They are not moving. Yet your eyes see movement. How can this be possible?

Your brain is very easily fooled, and this is why we are enthralled by magic.

This is OK for entertainment, but when we are fooled into actions that harm us, we must take aim and see through the smoke and mirrors.

And with this one thought you will have risen to a level of intellectual honesty and understanding that few people ever experience. You will have discovered that the most magical things in life are often the result of the correct application of the most basic principles imaginable.

When it comes to being hooked by cigarette smoking, it gets basic indeed.

Because one of the most basic drives we all share – in fact of all life shares – is this:

We are pleasure-seeking and pain-avoiding creatures.

Nature has ensured our safety and survival by giving us this basic instinct:

  • To be drawn to things that give us reward and pleasure, and
  • To be repelled by things that give us pain or discomfort.

And when things reward us or cause us pain, the brain acts purely on instinct…automatically.

This automatic functioning is in our subconscious, where habits and addictions play, and the reward center of the brain become activated.

This is why it’s not your fault.

Your brain has been hoodwinked into associating a harmful activity with pleasure. And you fear that quitting smoking will take away the pleasure you once got or still get from smoking.

The good news is that you don’t have to give up anything when you become free.

Nothing is sacrificed.

Nothing is lost.
